Waitakere Swimming ClubOur Competition Structure

  • Term 1
  • Term 2

  • Term 4

(Bronze) Generally Primary School age.

  1. The focus for these swimmers is on achieving good results at their school, zone, and Regional School Swimming
  2. Club nights and Swim leagues will provide the correct amount of competition for this level, there is not a need to add additional external

(Silver) Generally Intermediate School age / Year 9

  1. The focus for these swimmers is also on achieving good results at their school, zone, and Regional School Swimming Championships therefore there is not a need to add additional competition for this
  2. Club nights and Swim leagues will provide the correct amount of competition for this

(Gold) Generally High school age / Open

  1. Swimmers who have not achieved National times will focus on their school, zone, and Regional School Swimming Championships. Club nights and selected events will provide the correct amount of competition for their training phases. If swimmers have qualified for ASA Open, they will only swim on the Saturday and
  2. National swimmers will prepare for National Age Group Swimming Championships (NAGS) and target top 8 finishes. They will also focus on school, zones, Regional Schools, and ASA Swimming Championships. Open swimmers will target NZ

School Holidays

One-week break for all squads is generally taken on the first week of the school holidays however this could change to the second week depending on the dates on NAGS and Opens In house swim camp in the second week.

(Bronze) Generally Primary School age.

  1. The focus for these swimmers is on achieving good results at the scheduled level 2 or 3 meet (see calendar)
  2. ASA level meets and Club nights will continue to refine competition skills for this

(Silver) Generally Intermediate School age / Year 9.

  1. The focus for these swimmers is on achieving qualifying times at the NSS festival meet (see calendar) The goal is to target qualifying times for level progression, the Greerton meet and ASA Junior and Winter
  2. ASA Level meets and Club Nights will continue to refine competition skills for this level

(Gold) Generally High school age / Open

  1. Swimmers who do not have their National times will focus on achieving these at the Evolution swim Meet in
  2. National swimmers will prepare for the Evolution Swim Meet and target top 3
  3. ASA Level meets will provide the correct events to target based on their training

School Holidays

One-week break for all squads is generally taken on the first week of the school holidays In house or away Swim Camp (12 and over) is generally taken in the 2nd week.

  1. The focus for these swimmers is on achieving Auckland Junior times at the scheduled level 2 or 3 meet (see calendar) This will be the last opportunity to qualify for ASA
  2. Club nights will continue to refine competition skills for this

(Silver) Generally Intermediate School age / Year 9

  1. The focus for these swimmers is on achieving Qualifying times at the Level 1 or 2 meet (see calendar) The goal is to target qualifying times for ASA Junior and attend AIMS Games for your school. This will be the last opportunity to qualify for ASA Juniors
  2. Club nights will continue to refine competition skills for this

(Gold) Generally High school age / Open

  1. Swimmers who do not have National times will focus on achieving these and additional ASA Age times at the level 1 meet. This will be the last opportunity to qualify for NZ SC Championships Club night will also offer the correct events based on the training
  2. National swimmers will prepare for NZ Secondary Schools and NZ Short Course Championships.
  3. Club nights will continue to refine competition skills for this

School Holidays

One-week break for all squads is generally taken on the first week of the school holidays but will be dependent on NZ Short Course Nationals

TBA – in house or away Junior Swim Camp is generally taken in the 2nd week.

  2. Auckland Junior Qualifiers will focus on this event. Club nights will continue to refine competition skills for this level

(Silver) Generally Intermediate School age / Year 9

  1. The focus for these swimmers is on achieving times at the scheduled level 2 or 3 meet (see calendar).
  2. Auckland Junior Qualifiers will focus on this
  3. Club nights will continue to refine competition skills for this level

(Gold) Generally High school age / Open

  1. Good communication is needed so that swimmers can achieve at school and in the pool during exam time. National swimmers will build their base work for the following years national events and focus on their school exams
  2. Swimmers who do not have National times will focus on achieving them. This term will be the last opportunity to qualify for NAGS and Opens as travel arrangements will need to be finalized.
  3. Club nights will continue to refine competition skills for this level. Club championships will be

School Holidays

Two – Three-weeks break for all squads is generally taken. Squad training is generally available from 2nd Monday in January.

TBA –Rotorua Away Swim Camp is generally taken in the 2nd week.
